Trump Requests $1.01 Trillion Defense Budget for Fiscal Year 2026

Washington: US President Donald Trump has asked Congress for a $1.01 trillion defense budget increase for fiscal year 2026. This will be an increase of approximately 13% between 2025 and 2026.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a senior Pentagon official stated during a special briefing to reporters: “The president’s request for the national defense budget for fiscal year 2026 is $1.01 trillion, a 13% increase over the enacted levels for fiscal year 2025.”

The proposal is part of a document reflecting the Trump Administration’s key priorities, including strengthening military capabilities, reducing domestic spending, and refocusing funding on “critical” areas. This item is part of a project proposed by Trump, among other things, to significantly redistribute funds for the space program.

In particular, more than $7 billion was proposed for NASA’s lunar mission in May, which aims to beat China to the lunar “colonization.” Another $1 billion is also planned for new investments in programs aimed at preparing for a human landing on Mars.
