Tunis: Tunisian authorities are continuing, for the third consecutive day, their efforts to extinguish large-scale fires that have erupted in several forests and mountains in the north of the country, coinciding with a record-breaking heat wave that has exacerbated the flames and their rapid spread.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Civil Protection Department confirmed that 202 fires have been brought under control in the past hours, while efforts continue to extinguish other fires that broke out on Friday in the dense forests of Mount Mansour, which connects the governorates of Zaghouan and Siliana. Meanwhile, citizens issued a distress call after the fires approached their homes due to strong winds and high temperatures, causing damage to vast areas of vegetation, destroying hundreds of hectares of trees. No human losses have been recorded.

The authorities called on citizens to exercise caution and avoid going into forests or lighting fires outdoors, stressing that the situation is under constant monitoring and that field interventions will continue until the fires are fully controlled.
