New York:Iraq and Turkey have reached an agreement to strengthen security cooperation, expand bilateral trade and investment, and immediately implement previously signed agreements.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Prime Minister Ali Faleh Al-Zaidi and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed their commitment to these goals during a meeting in New York. They have agreed to enhance security cooperation by addressing strategic relations between the two nations. This includes extending the authority of the Iraqi state over Sinjar and removing prohibited foreign armed elements.

As part of the security measures, Turkish forces will begin a gradual handover of the Bashiqa-Zlikan camp to the Iraqi federal government, following an agreed mechanism and timeline.

The leaders also committed to boosting trade and investment between Iraq and Turkey, with an emphasis on accelerating joint strategic projects, notably the Development Road project.
