Baghdad: Turkey offered its condolences to the Iraqi people over the killing of two border guards in an attack by the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants in the northern province of Dohuk on Friday.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Turkish Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Oncu Ke§ali expressed deep sadness over the incident and conveyed condolences to the Iraqi people. He stated that the attack was carried out by the terrorist PKK organization in Dohuk, resulting in the death of two Iraqi soldiers from the Border Forces Command.

Ke§ali also wished mercy for the soldiers who were killed and a speedy recovery for the injured soldier. He emphasized that the PKK poses a threat to the national security of both Turkey and Iraq and violates Iraq's sovereignty. The spokesperson asserted that the recent attack highlighted the true nature of the PKK as a terrorist organization.

Furthermore, Ke§ali reiterated Turkey's commitment to continue its joint efforts with Iraq in combating terrorism. The incident underscores the ongoing security challenges both countries face in the region.

On Friday, the Ministry of Interior reported the killing of two PKK militants following the attack on the border guards in the Zakho district of Dohuk province. The ministry's statement indicated that border guard forces engaged with PKK elements and successfully neutralized two terrorists responsible for the attack on their patrols.
