Ankara: Turkey has expressed its approval of the newly formed Syrian government, emphasizing its commitment to supporting Damascus in its political transition. The Turkish Foreign Ministry announced its positive stance in a statement, highlighting the recent organization of the National Dialogue Conference and the announcement of the Constitutional Charter as evidence of Syria’s intentions to pursue a Syrian-led political transition.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Turkish Foreign Ministry underscored the importance of an inclusive political process, considering it essential for achieving security and stability in Syria. The statement called for the international community’s focus on restoring stability in Syria, advocating for the lifting of sanctions and the initiation of reconstruction efforts in the country.

The new Syrian government is composed of 23 ministers, including one woman and five officials from the transitional government established on December 10, 2024. Key figures such as Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani, Defense Minister Marhaf Abu Qasra, Local Administration Minister Mohammed Anjarani, and Public Works and Housing Minister Mustafa Abdul Razzaq have retained their positions. Meanwhile, Mohammed al-Bashir, previously head of the transitional government, has been appointed Minister of Energy.

On January 29, the Syrian government appointed Ahmed al-Sharaa as president for the transitional period, marking significant changes by abolishing the constitution, dissolving armed factions, security services, the People’s Assembly, and the Ba’ath Party. Subsequently, on March 13, al-Sharaa signed a constitutional declaration setting the transitional period at five years.
