Baghdad: Turkey’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ahmet Yildiz, has called on the international community to break its silence over what Turkey perceives as Israel’s provocations and violations, urging immediate global action.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Yildiz delivered a speech during an open debate at the UN Security Council addressing the Israeli-Palestinian issue. He highlighted that recent developments have pushed the situation into its most perilous phase, resulting in significant human casualties and obstructing efforts towards a two-state solution. The Turkish representative noted that these actions undercut international law and the values enshrined in the UN Charter.
Yildiz pointed out the severe impact of Israeli attacks on civilians, citing thousands of casualties, widespread destruction of neighborhoods, and damage to crucial infrastructure. He also accused Israel of hindering the delivery of humanitarian aid, including essential supplies such as food, water, medicine, and fuel. Furthermore, Yildiz claimed that Israel continues to target schools, health facilities, and UNRWA-run displaced persons camps.
Addressing the issue of Security Council Resolution 2334, Yildiz accused Israel of not adhering to the resolution in the occupied West Bank. He highlighted ongoing settlement activities, violence by extremist settlers, forced displacement, and attempts to alter the status of al-Quds.
Yildiz firmly stated Turkey’s position against any forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza, the occupied West Bank, or East Quds. He also highlighted ongoing violations against Syrian territory and the escalation of military actions in Lebanon, which he says breach the 1974 Separation Agreement and Security Council Resolution 1701, respectively.
The Turkish representative concluded by condemning these actions as blatant violations of international law that threaten regional stability. He urged the international community to act decisively against Israel’s provocations and violations, emphasizing that silence is no longer an option.
