New york: Turkey warned against the Kurdish SDF’s continued unilateral recruitment of new members from within the Syrian social fabric as part of a malicious agenda, which contradicts the authority of central institutions and harms the country’s unity and integrity.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Turkey’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ahmet Yildiz, addressed the issue during a UN Security Council meeting focused on the situation in Syria. He emphasized that the central government and a unified national army are essential for stability in Syria. Yildiz highlighted the importance of sustained efforts to achieve peace and stability based on Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national unity, stressing the need to strengthen the Syrian government to reach these objectives.

In his speech, Yildiz reiterated the primary mission of restoring stability and security to Syria. He noted that the Syrian government remains committed to enhancing security for its people and territory. Yildiz also underscored the significance of implementing the March 10 agreement between the Syrian government and the Kurdish PKK/YPG, which operates under the name “SDF.”

Yildiz expressed concern over the lack of credible steps from the SDF to reduce tensions or contribute to a secure environment. He pointed to the presence of armed elements from other countries that the SDF is exploiting for recruitment purposes. Yildiz called for increased pressure on the SDF and urged for its disarmament, warning against the group’s intentions to prolong ambiguity and exploit potential crises to its advantage.
