Turkey: Turkey's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ahmet Yildiz, criticized the Syrian Democratic Forces' (SDF) rejection of the Syrian government's calls for integration, asserting that "separatist projects have no future in Syria."
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Yildiz made these remarks during a UN Security Council session held to discuss recent developments in Syria, focusing on the Syrian army's control over most of the country's territory. He emphasized the popular support the Syrian government has garnered and noted the growing intolerance among various segments of Syrian society towards the SDF.
Yildiz further stated, "There is no future for separatist and divisive projects that target the unity of Syria. The so-called SDF was neither Syrian, nor democratic, nor a genuine force. Rather, it was an extension of the PKK/YPG terrorists." He highlighted that recent events and violations by the SDF validate Turkey's longstanding position on the matter.
He explained that the Syrian government has regained control over a large part of the country's territory, pointing out that the terrorist organization had previously exploited the prolonged instability to control vast areas. Yildiz reiterated Turkey's support for Syria's efforts to establish a unified, sovereign, and independent state where all groups coexist peacefully.
The Syrian government had recently signed an agreement with the SDF, which included a ceasefire and the integration of the SDF's members and institutions into the Syrian state. Despite the agreement and the announced "common understanding," the SDF violated the ceasefire on its first day, resulting in casualties in Hasakah province.
The agreement followed a military operation by the Syrian army that recaptured large areas in the east and northeast, prompted by repeated violations by the SDF of previous agreements.
