Turkish and Jordanian Foreign Ministers Discuss Latest Developments in the Palestinian Arena

Ankara: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan discussed the latest developments in the Palestinian arena with his Jordanian counterpart, Ayman Safadi.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, sources in the Turkish Foreign Ministry reported that the two ministers exchanged views on the latest developments related to Palestine during a telephone call.

It is worth noting that the Israeli government approved on Sunday a proposal to begin registering lands in the West Bank as "state lands" for the first time since 1967, with the aim of gradually annexing 15 percent of Area C by 2030, according to the newspaper "Israel Hayom."

Under the 1995 Oslo II Accord, the West Bank was temporarily divided into three areas: Area A, under full Palestinian control; Area B, under Palestinian civil control and Israeli security control.

Area C constitutes approximately 61 percent of the West Bank and remains under Israeli control until a permanent status agreement is reached, which, according to the agreement, was supposed to be signed by May 1999.

The Palestinians consider these measures a prelude to the annexation of the West Bank, which undermines the two-state solution upon which UN resolutions are based.
