Tehran: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will pay an official visit to Iran on Sunday, where he is scheduled to meet with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi and other senior officials, according to sources at the Turkish Foreign Ministry.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the visit aims to strengthen the institutional framework of bilateral relations within the High-Level Cooperation Council, established in 2014, and to prepare for the Council's upcoming ninth meeting, to be co-chaired by Presidents Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Masoud Pezeshkian.

Fidan is expected to discuss security and counterterrorism cooperation, as well as transportation and regional connectivity projects, with an emphasis on expediting infrastructure work at border trade centers and raising the volume of bilateral trade to $30 billion.

Talks will also focus on regional stability, a peaceful solution to Iran's nuclear program, efforts to halt Israel's aggression in Gaza, maintaining the ceasefire, and supporting reconstruction efforts in the Strip. Additionally, discussions will address ending the Russia-Ukraine war through diplomacy and preserving stability in the South Caucasus.

The two sides will also exchange views on easing the recent tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan. The eighth session of the High-Level Cooperation Council was held in Ankara earlier this year.
