Ankara: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and his US counterpart Marco Rubio engaged in a discussion regarding the outcomes of the recent Washington meeting involving US President Donald Trump and European leaders, which aimed to address the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, as well as the current situation in Gaza.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, a source from the Turkish Foreign Ministry revealed in a press release that Fidan and Rubio held a phone conversation today. They discussed the results of Trump’s meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, as well as Trump’s subsequent meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders in Washington.

The talks between Fidan and Rubio focused on potential measures to bring an end to the war between Russia and Ukraine. During the conversation, Fidan reiterated Trkiye’s willingness to provide comprehensive support to ensure a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.

On Monday, the White House was the venue for discussions involving Trump, Zelenskyy, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, French President Emmanuel Macron, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. This meeting followed the Alaska summit on Friday, where Trump and Putin deliberated on achieving a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine and improving bilateral relations.

The ministers also addressed the recent developments in Gaza and ongoing ceasefire negotiations. Fidan emphasized the urgency of establishing a permanent ceasefire and ensuring the continuous delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza without delay.

Additionally, Fidan and Rubio discussed the situation in Syria, underlining the importance of maintaining the country’s territorial integrity and unity.
