Berlin: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will pay an official visit to the German capital, Berlin, tomorrow, Friday, at the invitation of his counterpart, Johannes Wadephul.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, sources at the Turkish Foreign Ministry stated today, Thursday, that Minister Fidan is expected to meet with Turkish businesspeople and representatives of civil society organizations in Germany during his visit. They added that Minister Fidan will emphasize, during his talks with his German counterpart, the importance of continuing to work through consultation and dialogue mechanisms in Turkish-German relations, which have gained significant momentum through high-level visits.
Fidan is expected to express his satisfaction with the steady strengthening of bilateral economic and trade relations and assess opportunities to develop existing cooperation mechanisms in the energy and transportation sectors from a strategic perspective. He will also emphasize the possibility of enhancing the exchange of knowledge and expertise between Turkey and Germany in areas such as communication, artificial intelligence, advanced technology, and digitalization.
Sources indicated that Fidan will present his ideas on relations between Turkey and the European Union, particularly regarding the modernization of the Customs Union, advancing the visa liberalization dialogue, and including Turkey in the EU’s industrial strategy. He will also emphasize the need to develop stronger, more institutionalized, and trust-based cooperation between Turkey and the EU.
During the talks, Minister Fidan will stress the importance of preventing Israel from undermining the ceasefire in Gaza, establishing a permanent ceasefire in the Strip, ensuring the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid, initiating reconstruction efforts, and guaranteeing the withdrawal of Israeli forces. He is also expected to exchange views on efforts and contacts aimed at ensuring lasting stability and security in Syria based on its territorial integrity and unity.
Relations between Turkey and Germany are witnessing increasing momentum through mutual contacts and visits across all political, economic, trade, military, defense, humanitarian, and cultural dimensions. Trade volume between Ankara and Berlin reached $47.5 billion in 2024, and the two countries aim to increase this figure to $60 billion in the short term. German direct investment in Turkey amounted to $771 million in 2024, ranking second in terms of total foreign direct investment in Turkey.
