Baghdad: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is scheduled to visit Qatar on Sunday for talks on bilateral relations and current regional developments.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Fidan is expected to emphasize Turkey's solidarity and strong support for Qatar in the face of recent Iranian attacks during his official meetings. He will also discuss the growing relations between the two countries in various fields, based on their strategic partnership.

The two sides are expected to review preparations for the 12th meeting of the Turkish-Qatari High Strategic Committee, scheduled to be held in Turkey this year, co-chaired by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

Fidan is expected to stress that recent regional developments have once again highlighted the strategic importance of military and defense cooperation between the two countries, as well as the necessity of addressing regional issues through dialogue and diplomacy.

The sources added that Fidan is also expected to emphasize the importance of strengthening cooperation in regional connectivity, which is becoming increasingly vital for economic stability and energy security.

Fidan is expected to emphasize that permanently ending tensions in the Gulf and preventing any further escalation is a pressing priority, and to exchange views with Qatari officials on ongoing diplomatic efforts and mediation attempts in this regard.

For days, the United States has been launching successive waves of strikes on targets inside Iran, while Tehran has been launching attacks on what it claims are American ships, facilities, and military bases in several countries in the region.

Turkish-Qatari relations, which have been elevated to the level of a strategic partnership since 2014, have witnessed continuous development through reciprocal visits and agreements signed between the two sides.

The Turkish-Qatari High Strategic Committee is the highest institutional framework for bilateral relations and has been meeting annually since 2015, alternating between the two countries, under the chairmanship of Erdogan and the Emir of Qatar. The most recent meeting was held in Doha on October 22, 2025.
