Amman: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has reaffirmed Turkey's stance that Al-Aqsa Mosque is one of its holy sites and that any attack on it is considered an affront to the values of the Turkish people. He warned that the international community's inaction regarding Israel's expansionist policies could spiral into a global crisis.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Fidan, speaking to the Turkish channel TRT after a ministerial meeting in Amman on Jerusalem, emphasized that despite ongoing conflicts in the Gulf and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, Turkey remains focused on the Palestinian issue, particularly concerning Gaza, Jerusalem, Al-Aqsa Mosque, and the West Bank. He highlighted that any distraction would enable Israel to further its practices in these areas.

The meeting in Amman gathered representatives from around 20 Islamic countries to discuss recent Israeli attacks on Al-Aqsa Mosque and to explore collective diplomatic and practical responses. Fidan underscored Jordan's historical and legal role in the custodianship of Jerusalem's holy sites, affirming Turkey's commitment to defending Al-Aqsa.

Fidan also reported on the Quartet meeting, which included Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Pakistan. The foreign ministers discussed Gaza's developments, the peace plan's implementation mechanisms, and Israel's stance. Egypt and Turkey are continuing mediation efforts, with resolutions being prepared for their leaders.

The meeting further addressed regional tensions, including those surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, and discussed a joint regional vision document aimed at achieving security and peace. Fidan criticized Israel's lack of genuine intention for a lasting peace, highlighting its promotion of illegal policies and the global community's challenge to take decisive diplomatic actions.

Fidan concluded by criticizing Israel's actions against the peace process, urging the international community to take a definitive stance. He noted that Hamas has met many peace plan commitments, whereas Israel has obstructed implementation, citing fabricated pretexts for violence against Palestinians.

Fidan's participation in the Amman meeting underscores Turkey's active role in international diplomatic efforts to counter illegal Israeli policies in Jerusalem, amidst escalating tensions in the occupied West Bank.
