Geneva: Turkish Minister of Labor and Social Security, Vedat Isikhan, met with Iraqi Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Ahmed Al-Asadi, in Geneva on Tuesday. This meeting occurred on the sidelines of their participation in the 113th session of the International Labor Conference, organized by the International Labor Organization (ILO).

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting took place at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva. It was attended on the Turkish side by Burak Ak§abar, Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva, and Ali Aybay, Director-General for External Relations and the European Union at the Ministry of Labor and Social Security.

The International Labor Conference, which opened its 113th session on Monday, is held annually and represents the highest decision-making body of the International Labor Organization. Delegations from 187 member states of the organization, along with observers from other international bodies, participate to discuss and decide on key issues in the world of work. The Conference comprises a General Assembly and several standing and technical committees that deliberate on agenda items.

The main topics on this session’s agenda include “Protection from Biological Hazards in the Workplace,” “Decent Work in the Platform Economy,” and “Innovative Approaches to Addressing Informal Work and Promoting the Transition to Formal Employment to Promote Decent Work.” Additionally, “ILO Tripartite Participation in the Second World Summit for Social Development in 2025” is part of the agenda.

The conference will also consider adopting amendments to the Maritime Labour Convention of 2006. These amendments were adopted by the Ad Hoc Tripartite Committee under Article 13 of the Maritime Labour Convention during its fifth session in April 2025.
