Istanbul: Turkish media reported that the account of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, currently imprisoned opposition leader, has been blocked on the X platform under the name "Presidential Candidate's Office."

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the block comes after Imamoglu's personal account on the platform, which had nearly 10 million followers, was blocked on May 8th. He then switched to the now-blocked account. The decision to block the account was based on Article 8/A of Law No. 5651, citing the protection of national security and public order, and was communicated to internet service providers.

The judicial authority that issued the decision was not disclosed, and the platform has not yet complied with the block within Turkey, where the account, which has 333,000 followers, remains visible. In response to the block, the account changed its name to "CBAdayOfisi1," while the Istanbul Public Prosecutor's Office claimed that the previous account was continuously posting. "Misleading information" prompted the authorities to open a criminal investigation under Article 217/A of the Penal Code and submit a request to the judiciary, which upheld the request and ordered the account to be blocked.

It is worth noting that Imamoglu was previously arrested on March 19 and released on March 23 as part of an investigation related to "terrorism," only to be rearrested a few days later on charges of "corruption." On October 11, the indictment against the Istanbul Municipality was finalized and included a request for a prison sentence of up to 2,430 years.
