Ankara: The Turkish Parliament has approved a memorandum urging the suspension of Israel’s membership in the United Nations, following Israel’s decision to expand its occupation of the Gaza Strip, which is viewed as genocide against the Palestinian people.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the memorandum was submitted by the Parliament Presidency and was discussed during an emergency session led by Turkish Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmus. He described the memorandum as a powerful document that represents Turkey’s official stance on the international stage. The memorandum has been signed by all heads and deputy heads of Turkish parliamentary blocs and will become a state policy document once published in the Official Gazette.

The document highlights that Israel’s long-standing policies of occupation, annexation, and what it terms genocide have escalated in Gaza over the last two years, resulting in significant loss of life and destruction of civilian infrastructure. The memorandum accuses the Israeli government, led by Benjamin Netanyahu, of intentionally inflicting famine and poverty on Palestinians in Gaza, as corroborated by reports from the United Nations and other international organizations.

The memorandum states that approximately 70,000 people, predominantly children and women, have been killed in Gaza over the past two years, with more than 150,000 wounded. It underscores the increasing violence, displacement, and illegal settlements faced by Palestinians in Gaza, Al-Quds, and the West Bank, criticizing the silence of major international institutions except for the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court.

The document calls for Israel’s suspension from the United Nations and all international bodies until its government reverses its policies in Gaza. It also advocates for the continuation of humanitarian aid to Gaza and for Israeli officials to be held accountable for war crimes and genocide by the international judiciary.

Additionally, the memorandum reaffirms support for the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state on the 1967 borders as a path to achieving lasting peace. It urges global parliaments to sever military and trade relations with Israel, end the siege on Palestinians, protect the two-state solution prospect, and increase international recognition of the State of Palestine.
