Turkish Presidency Denies Allegations of Targeting Kurds in Syria as Baseless

Ankara: The Head of the Turkish Presidency’s Communications Directorate, Burhanettin Duran, affirmed that the claims being circulated by some political circles regarding “targeting Kurds in Syria” do not reflect reality and aim to incite discord.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Duran stated in a post on the Turkish platform “InSocial” that these claims aim to “reignite social divisions in the region,” emphasizing the need for everyone to adopt a unifying, rather than divisive, language in the face of this misleading rhetoric. He added that Turkey’s struggle is not directed against ethnic identities, but against terrorism, violence, and all structures operating outside the framework of the law.

Duran indicated that Ankara’s objective is to prevent the establishment of a terrorist corridor on its borders and to support every constructive step that would consolidate lasting peace, stability, and an inclusive political system in the region.

On the 18th of this month, Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa signed a ceasefire agreement with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), stipulating the integration of its members into the institutions of the central government. The agreement came after a military operation launched by the Syrian army, during which it recaptured large areas in the east and northeast of the country, following the SDF’s repeated violations of agreements signed with the government ten months prior and its failure to implement their terms.
