Turkmenistan: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced a limited ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, which could constitute a fundamental step towards a just and lasting peace between Moscow and Kyiv.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Turkish Presidency's Communications Directorate stated in a press release that this step came during a meeting between President Erdogan and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, on Friday in the Turkmen capital, Ashgabat, on the sidelines of the International Peace Forum.

The statement from the Turkish Presidency's Communications Directorate explained that Erdogan and Putin discussed bilateral relations and efforts to achieve a comprehensive peace to end the Russian-Ukrainian war, in addition to other issues, including the European Union's freezing of Russian funds.

During the meeting, Erdogan reiterated Turkey's commitment to supporting peace initiatives between Moscow and Kyiv, emphasizing his close monitoring of the negotiations to end the war and Ankara's readiness to host talks between the two sides "in all their forms."

Erdogan praised efforts to end the war with a 'just and lasting' peace, expressing his confidence that progress could be made that serves both sides. He considered the commencement of a limited ceasefire, including energy facilities and ports, a 'potentially useful step' in this direction.

The Communications Directorate stated that the talks also addressed the latest developments in Palestine and Syria, as well as issues related to the South Caucasus peace process.

Erdogan arrived in Ashgabat on Thursday for a two-day visit to participate in the forum being held to commemorate the United Nations' declaration of 2025 as the 'International Year of Peace and Trust.'
