Baghdad: The Ministry of Interior announced the arrest of two international drug traffickers in a special operation inside Syrian territory.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Ministry stated in a press release that the operation was part of joint security and intelligence cooperation between Iraq and Syria. This operation was based on precise intelligence information and the systematic activation of sources. A detachment from the General Directorate of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Affairs in Iraq moved into Syrian territory, following high-level coordination with the Anti-Narcotics Directorate in the Syrian Arab Republic.

The Ministry explained that this direct cooperation led to a special operation resulting in the arrest of two suspects, identified as international drug traffickers. They were found in possession of 57 kilograms of hashish, which they planned to smuggle into Iraqi territory.

The Ministry of Interior affirmed that this operation is an advanced model of regional security coordination. It highlights the mutual trust between the security agencies of Iraq and Syria and their commitment to confronting the drug threat that endangers the security and stability of their societies.

The Ministry expressed gratitude to the Syrian Anti-Narcotics Directorate for its cooperation and joint efforts, which were crucial to the operation's success. It emphasized the importance of continually strengthening this cooperation for the security of both countries and the region.

The Ministry also reiterated its commitment to pursuing international criminal networks, cutting off drug supplies, and continuing intelligence and field operations to protect the Iraqi people from this serious threat.
