BAGHDAD: In a recent crackdown on illegal activities, authorities in Iraq have arrested two individuals suspected of smuggling petroleum products. The arrests took place in the governorates of Diyala and Diwaniyah, and the suspects’ vehicles were seized as part of the operation.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Energy Police Directorate’s Fourth and Sixth Brigades conducted the arrests and confiscations. The vehicles involved were tanks used for transporting petroleum products, and both individuals were detained for multiple violations. The operation was carried out under the legal framework of Law No. (41) of 2008, which targets the smuggling of oil and its derivatives.

The Energy Police Directorate emphasized the importance of these arrests in curbing the illegal smuggling of petroleum products, a significant issue that affects the country’s economy. All seized items are now in the custody of the authorities, and investigations are ongoing to uncover further details about the smuggling network and its operations.
