Fairford:British counter-terrorism police are investigating a potential Iranian connection to a suspected bombing plot targeting the Royal Air Force (RAF) base at Fairford in Gloucestershire, a facility utilized by US forces.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, The Telegraph Newspaper reported that police apprehended five men under the Explosives Act on suspicion of plotting a terrorist act. This followed the sighting of three suspicious vans near the base early Sunday morning.

Authorities are exploring various motives, but the investigation currently leans towards a link to Iran. Sources cited by the newspaper suggest that Iranian operatives might be directly involved, rather than working through intermediaries.

In response to the arrests, bomb disposal experts were dispatched to inspect the vehicles. Approximately 85 homes were evacuated, and security cordons were set up near Fairford, with the restricted area later extending to include Kempsford.
