Ukraine Excludes Previous US Aid from Metals Agreement with Washington

Baghdad: Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced yesterday that Ukraine has agreed that previous US aid to Kyiv will not be part of the metals agreement it aims to sign with Washington. “We have reached agreements that the document will not count aid provided before its signing,” Shmyhal said in a post on the Telegram messaging app.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Shmyhal, who was in the United States last week to attend the spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, added that there has been “good progress” on the agreement after his meeting with US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant.

“The most important thing is that we have clearly defined our red lines, and the agreement must respect European obligations and not conflict with Ukraine’s constitution and legislation,” he continued, explaining that legal teams are working on the document.
