Baghdad: A government delegation has submitted Iraq's National Contributions document, with the UN confirming its support for Iraq's climate agenda. The Executiv Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, Simon Stiell, officially received Iraq's recently endorsed Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).

According to National Iraqi News Agency, during his meeting with the Iraqi delegation on the sidelines of the 30th Conference of the Parties (COP30), Stiell reaffirmed the international community's readiness to support Iraq in advancing its climate agenda and strengthening its mitigation and adaptation capacities. He commended Iraq for its progress in climate action and its serious steps toward enhancing national policies and fulfilling its climate commitments.

The Iraqi delegation, in turn, expressed the country's commitment to accelerating its national climate efforts and working closely with international partners to achieve its climate goals in line with sustainable development priorities. The delegation emphasized their determination to work collaboratively with global entities to ensure the effective implementation of their climate strategies.

It is noteworthy that UN agencies and programs, coordinated by the Office of the Resident Coordinator and supported technically by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), played a crucial role in developing Iraq's NDCs. They provided expertise and facilitated cooperation across the UN system, supporting Iraq's national efforts to address climate change challenges.
