UN Official: Gaza Must Be An Integral Part Of A Palestinian State

New york: The Assistant Secretary-General for Europe in the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs of the United Nations, Miroslav Jenca, emphasized that the recent decision by the Israeli government concerning the Gaza Strip presents a significant risk of escalating the conflict, potentially affecting areas beyond Israel and the occupied Palestinian territories.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Jenca addressed an emergency meeting of the Security Council regarding the Middle East situation, asserting that the only viable resolution to cease the extensive human suffering in Gaza is through a complete, immediate, and lasting ceasefire. He urged for the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages.

Furthermore, Jenca implored Israel to fulfill its international humanitarian law obligations and facilitate the swift, safe, and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need. He highlighted the necessity of protecting civilians, including humanitarian workers, and reiterated th
at there is no military solution for the Gaza situation. A sustainable resolution requires ending the illegal Israeli occupation and achieving a viable two-state solution, with Gaza being an integral part of a Palestinian state.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Trk, also urged the Israeli government to immediately cease its plan for full military control over the occupied Gaza Strip.
