Gaza: UN organizations have described the humanitarian needs in Gaza as “enormous” despite the increased flow of aid to the Strip since the ceasefire between Hamas and the Israeli occupation began on January 19.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the World Health Organization and the World Food Program have reported an increase in the delivery of supplies to the Strip since the ceasefire came into effect. They have stressed that the health needs in Gaza remain significant amid the extensive destruction of the health system.

The World Health Organization has revealed its efforts to enhance the capacity of hospital beds and aims to establish a ready hospital within four to five weeks in the northern Strip. It noted that the capacity of Gaza hospitals has reached between 1,500 and 1,900 beds due to international aid, with hopes to increase this to 2,000 or 2,500 beds as soon as possible.

The World Food Program announced that since the beginning of the ceasefire, approximately 600 trucks loaded with humanitarian aid have been entering Gaza daily, including 50 trucks carrying fuel. It has delivered over 10,300 metric tons of food, which is more than twice the amount delivered in December and three times as much in October. Additionally, there are sufficient supplies stored at the border awaiting a permit from the occupation to enter Gaza to sustain more than one million people for three months.

The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) confirmed its commitment to supporting relief efforts in the Strip despite Israeli restrictions. It noted that the conditions of the population are dire and require donors to increase funding to meet the basic needs of civilians.
