New york: The UN Security Council on Tuesday adopted the US draft resolution concerning the future of Gaza following the war. Thirteen members of the Security Council voted in favor of the resolution, while representatives from Russia and China abstained. According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Security Council convened to deliberate on the US plan regarding Gaza's future and the deployment of international forces. US Ambassador to the UN, Mike Waltz, stated, "President Trump's plan represents a courageous and practical roadmap to end the conflict in Gaza," highlighting that hunger is widespread and the death toll has escalated to tens of thousands. He emphasized the urgency of extinguishing the ongoing crisis. Waltz further explained that the US draft resolution is not merely a promise but ensures a ceasefire in Gaza, underscoring the US's commitment to recovering the remains of the last three captives held by Hamas. He noted that the resolution is based on President Trump's plan and includes realisti c goals, authorizing the formation of an international force to establish stability in Gaza. Hamas, however, expressed dissatisfaction, asserting that the Security Council's resolution does not meet the political and humanitarian needs and rights of the Palestinian people, especially in the Gaza Strip. In a statement, Hamas criticized the resolution for imposing an international trusteeship mechanism on the Strip, which they reject, arguing that it aims to achieve what the occupation could not through its military actions. The statement from Hamas warned that the resolution attempts to segregate the Gaza Strip from other Palestinian territories and imposes new realities. It expressed concern that the international force's involvement, including disarming the resistance, compromises its neutrality and aligns it with the occupation.
