UN Special Representative Visits Holy Shrine of Imam Ali in Najaf.


Najaf: The Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Head of its Mission in Iraq (UNAMI), Dr. Mohammad Al-Hassan, visited the shrine of Imam Ali bin Abi Talib (peace be upon him) in his inaugural visit after assuming his position as Head of the UN Mission in Baghdad. This visit marks a significant step in his mission, highlighting the importance of cultural and religious landmarks in Iraq.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Dr. Al-Hassan, alongside his delegation, was briefed on the historical significance and the ancient heritage of the holy shrine. He commended the shrine’s role in preserving Islamic heritage and acknowledged its ongoing development and humanitarian projects. The shrine’s commitment to welcoming visitors from around the globe was also praised during the visit.

In addition to his visit to the shrine, Dr. Al-Hassan met with the Supreme Religious Authority, Sayyid Ali Al-Sistani. This meeting underscored the importance of religious dialogue and understanding in fos
tering peace and cooperation. Furthermore, Dr. Al-Hassan toured several university institutions and scientific research centers in Najaf, emphasizing the region’s dedication to education and research.
