Baghdad: The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) and the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) discussed preparations for the House of Representatives elections, stressing the need for free, fair, and transparent elections.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, UNAMI stated in a statement that “the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) today hosted the Independent High Electoral Commission to discuss ongoing preparations for the House of Representatives elections scheduled for November 11, 2025.”

It added, “The Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Iraq and Head of UNAMI, Mohammed Al-Hassan, welcomed the Chairperson of the Commission and the members of the Board of Commissioners, emphasizing the Commission’s pivotal role in ensuring a free, fair, and transparent electoral process under Iraqi national leadership.”

According to the statement, the Special Representative emphasized that “preserving the Commission’s independence and enhancing the confidence of Iraqi citizens are two essential pillars for the success of the electoral process,” emphasizing “the importance of this event in establishing stability in Iraq and strengthening its democratic institutions and mechanisms of good governance.”

He called for “political parties to adhere to a code of conduct that establishes the foundations of fair competition, ensures peaceful, organized, well-managed, and credible elections, and refrains from using political money to ensure the integrity, independence, and transparency of elections within a comprehensive process that serves all the people of Iraq, regardless of their sectarian, ethnic, or denominational affiliations,” stressing the importance of women’s and minority participation.
