UNAMI Urges Investigation into Assassination of Baghdad Council Member

Baghdad: The United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) has strongly condemned the assassination of Safaa al-Mashhadani, a member of the Baghdad Provincial Council and a parliamentary election candidate. The attack also resulted in injuries to four individuals accompanying him.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, UNAMI has issued an official statement urging Iraqi authorities to carry out a swift and transparent investigation into this crime. The organization emphasized the need for accountability for those responsible for the assassination.

Safaa al-Mashhadani was targeted in the Tarmiyah area, north of Baghdad, where an explosive device detonated in his car early this morning. His death has raised concerns about the safety of political figures and candidates in the region.
