Baghdad: The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Bilateral Relations, Ambassador Mohammed Hussein Bahr Al-Uloom, held a meeting with Xiang Bo, the newly appointed Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Iraq, at the Ministry’s headquarters. The meeting focused on the development of relations between Iraq and China.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Undersecretary congratulated Ambassador Xiang Bo on his new role and expressed wishes for his success in continuing the efforts of his predecessors to strengthen and develop relations between the two nations. The Undersecretary underscored the significance of high-level official visits between Iraq and China and highlighted the necessity of facilitating visa procedures for Iraqi businesspeople and citizens to boost trade and tourism.

The discussion also touched on regional and international developments, particularly current events impacting the region, and the political efforts needed for de-escalation and to enhance security and stability. Ambassador Xiang Bo expressed his enthusiasm for his new assignment in Iraq and reaffirmed his commitment to advancing bilateral relations. He emphasized expanding cooperation, especially in the energy and trade sectors, while acknowledging Iraq’s geopolitical importance and its key role in the region.

Both parties concluded the meeting with an agreement to initiate a new round of political consultations. These consultations aim to assess the progress in bilateral relations and explore further cooperation avenues that benefit the shared interests of both countries and their peoples.
