Beirut: The Executive Director of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Catherine Russell, has disclosed alarming statistics indicating that at least one child is killed and ten others are injured every day as a result of the ongoing conflict that Israel has been waging on Lebanon since the beginning of last month.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Russell stated that the continued hostilities are severely disrupting the lives of children in Lebanon, inflicting both physical injuries and deep psychological trauma. Thousands of children who have survived the bombings are suffering from severe psychological distress due to the violence and chaos surrounding them.

Russell emphasized that war destroys the safe environments that children require. The prolonged psychological stress inflicted on children poses serious health and psychological risks, with potential lifelong effects. UNICEF has been actively working on the ground to offer psychological support to affected children. Since September 23,
2024, the organization has reached over 9,600 children and provided psychosocial support to about 10,000 children in the region.

The conflict has resulted in 2,865 deaths and 13,047 injuries, with a significant number of women and children among the casualties. Additionally, approximately 1.4 million people have been displaced, a majority of whom were affected after September 23, as per the latest official Lebanese data monitored by the Turkish Anadolu Agency.

In response to the conflict, Hezbollah has been launching daily retaliatory attacks, targeting military sites, intelligence headquarters, and settlements. While Israel has reported some of its human and material losses, military censorship has imposed a blackout on most of the details, according to observers.
