Baghdad: The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has documented the deaths of at least 300 children in Gaza during the 300 days since the ceasefire was declared last October.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Edward Beigbeder, UNICEF Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, highlighted that a ceasefire "that leaves, on average, one child dead every day, is failing children." He noted that hundreds of other children have been injured, many seriously, and that the children of Gaza are still waiting for the promised end to the violence.

UNICEF reported that families are currently living in approximately one-third of the Gaza Strip, under unsafe conditions amidst destroyed buildings, rubble, and accumulated solid waste. The organization further indicated that throughout the Strip, children continue to face acute malnutrition, disease, unsafe drinking water, and damaged sanitation systems.

Furthermore, UNICEF called on all parties to uphold their obligations under international law, including international humanitarian law and human rights law. It emphasized the need for all parties to protect children, ensure their access to essential goods and services, including healthcare, education, safe water, and food, and allow and facilitate safe, rapid, and unimpeded humanitarian access to children in need.
