Urgent Warning to Saudis and Kuwaitis: Avoid Central London Today


Baghdad: Saudi Arabia and Kuwait urged their citizens in Britain to exercise caution and avoid areas of gatherings and demonstrations scheduled in London and its suburbs today, Saturday. The Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Britain warned its citizens residing and visiting in London against approaching areas of gatherings and protests scheduled for Saturday in the city center. The Embassy confirmed in a statement: “The British capital will witness marches and protests,” calling on Saudis to exercise caution and follow the instructions of local authorities for their safety.



According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Kuwaiti Embassy also urged Kuwaiti citizens and students in Britain to exercise caution and avoid areas of gatherings and demonstrations scheduled to take place in London and its suburbs today, Saturday. In a statement, the embassy called on citizens and students to follow the instructions and guidelines issued by official British authorities.



For its part, the British police posted on its website instructions for residents of the country’s capital regarding preparations for a busy Saturday of protests and other events. The police statement read: “There will be a significant visible police presence across London on Saturday, due to a number of protests, football matches, and other events scheduled.”



It added: “More than 1,600 officers will be deployed as part of the general policing operation to maintain order, including 500 officers drawn from other forces. Approximately 1,000 officers will be responsible for ensuring the safety of two protests in central London.” These planned protests and rallies are titled “Unite the Kingdom,” organized by Stephen Wexley-Lennon, also known as Tommy Robinson. A counter-rally will be organized by the organization “Stand Up Against Racism,” starting in Russell Square at midday.
