US Ambassador to Ankara: The Path to Investment in Syria is Now Open

Ankara: US Ambassador to Turkey and Trump’s envoy to Syria, Thomas Barrack, stated that the path to investment in Syria is now open, with billions of dollars in international investments launched in the country. This announcement marks a significant step in regional economic cooperation and development.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Barrack made this announcement on the X platform, highlighting that this development follows US President Donald Trump’s recent decision to lift sanctions on Syria. Barrack emphasized the importance of this move, as a $7 billion energy agreement was signed in Damascus between the United States, Turkey, and Qatar. This agreement represents a major breakthrough in establishing new regional partnerships.

Barrack expressed optimism, saying, “Thanks to Trump, Syria is now open to business. Thanks to Qatar and Turkey, old borders and barriers are disappearing. It is time for trade, not chaos.” This underscores the focus on fostering economic growth and stability in the region through collaborative efforts.

Earlier on Thursday, a consortium of international companies signed a $7 billion energy agreement and memorandum of understanding with Syria. The agreement aims to generate 5,000 megawatts of electricity through four gas-fired power plants and includes plans for constructing a 1,000-megawatt solar power plant in southern Syria’s Wadi al-Rabi’ area.

The US Treasury Department supports these developments by issuing a general license on the 23rd of this month, providing “immediate relief” from sanctions on Syria. This move aligns with Trump’s decision, facilitating the smooth implementation of the investment agreements.
