Baghdad: The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Bilateral Relations, Ambassador Mohammed Hussein Mohammed Bahr Al-Uloom, received the Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy in Iraq, Joshua Harris, on Sunday evening.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the meeting focused on Iraqi-U.S. relations and discussed ways to enhance cooperation to align with the mutual interests of both nations. The upcoming meeting of the International Coalition to Defeat ISIS, scheduled for Monday evening in Riyadh, was also a key topic of discussion.
The statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted the coordination of international efforts to support Iraq concerning the temporary transfer of ISIS detainees from detention facilities in northeastern Syria. Both parties acknowledged Iraq’s significant role in maintaining regional and global security and stability, stressing the importance of repatriating nationals and securing financial backing for these initiatives.
In support of these
efforts, the U.S. Chargé d’Affaires reaffirmed his government’s commitment to aiding Iraq. The statement further mentioned that the conference in Riyadh will be chaired by the Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister and will include the participation of the U.S. Ambassador to Turkey, the U.S. Special Envoy to Syria, Tom Barrack, and representatives from several involved countries.
