Baghdad: A delegation from the U.S. Congress, during its meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, affirmed that Iraq is an 'important partner' for the United States, expressing the U.S. administration's desire to strengthen close cooperation with Baghdad to achieve stability in the region.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the delegation expressed admiration for Iraq's progress in reconstruction and stability, praising the close cooperation in combating terrorism. It also commended the level of bilateral relations, describing them as a fundamental relationship for the United States.

The meeting addressed ways to develop and expand bilateral relations across various fields, particularly within the framework of the Strategic Framework Agreement. Prime Minister Al-Sudani welcomed the delegation's visit and emphasized Iraq's commitment to enhancing joint cooperation with the United States, especially in the fields of energy and investment.

The parties also reviewed regional developments, with the Prime Minister reaffirming Iraq's steadfast position in supporting dialogue to ensure security and stability, while seeking to broaden cooperation across different sectors.

The delegation included U.S. House of Representatives members Daren LaHood (Republican Party) and Steve Cohen (Democratic Party).
