Washington: The Republican-controlled US House of Representatives has passed a resolution directing President Donald Trump to cease any US military action against Iran. The War Powers Resolution was approved with a vote tally of 214 to 208, with four Republicans siding with Democrats to support the measure. This resolution, introduced by Democratic Representative Pramila Jayapal, aims to prohibit the use of United States Armed Forces in hostilities against Iran unless Congress provides authorization.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, while the resolution represents a significant legislative effort, it is largely symbolic as similar resolutions have been passed repeatedly in recent months without successfully halting military actions. The Senate is expected to vote on a comparable resolution later in the day.

This legislative action follows an announcement by President Trump regarding an escalation in military operations against Iran, which resulted in further casualties among US military personnel. The situation intensified after the US military executed a series of airstrikes on Iran, leading to retaliatory strikes by Tehran on US bases in neighboring countries. These developments occurred just two weeks after a temporary ceasefire, intended to conclude the conflict, fell apart.
