Washington: The office of US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegsett announced that it had requested assistance from Military Intelligence to investigate the leak of classified information from within the Pentagon.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, the US Department of Defense said in a statement on Saturday that sensitive national security information, including classified communications, had been exposed, necessitating an immediate and thorough investigation. The Secretary's office requested the Director of Military Intelligence to provide urgent support to investigate these leaks.
The statement added that a comprehensive report will be prepared for the Secretary of Defense after the investigation is completed, including full details about these leaks and how they occurred.
Earlier, Elon Musk threatened Pentagon employees who might be behind the leak of information stating that he was scheduled to receive a briefing on a potential war between the United States and China. The New York Times broke the news Thursday evening, noting that anonymous US officials confirmed that the Pentagon was planning to brief Musk on Friday on the US military's plans for any potential war with China.
After the news broke, Pentagon officials and US President Donald Trump confirmed that the planned meeting would take place, but denied that the discussions would touch on military plans related to China. The New York Times report, which angered the White House, indicated that such a Pentagon briefing would expand Musk's already extensive role and highlight questions about potential conflicts of sources, especially as Musk is immersed in the federal government bureaucracy while continuing to run his companies, such as SpaceX, a major government contractor, and conducting business in China.
