Los Angeles: The White House announced today that US President Donald Trump has ordered the deployment of 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles, amid escalating protests over US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids on undocumented immigrants. White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt said in a statement that “President Trump signed a presidential memorandum authorizing the deployment of troops ‘to address the chaos that has been allowed to fester,'” accusing California’s Democratic local leaders of “weakness” in managing the security situation.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, President Trump had previously hinted on his Truth Social platform that the federal government could intervene if local officials, including California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, failed to control the situation, saying, “If they cannot do their job, the federal government will intervene to appropriately address the rioting and looting.”

For his part, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller described the ongoing protests as “a rebellion against the United States,” indicating an escalation in official rhetoric toward the anti-immigration movement.
