Baghdad: US Special Envoy to Iraq Mark Savaya emphasized the importance of the Iraqi government continuing its efforts to strengthen border security, combat smuggling and corruption, and consolidate state authority.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Savaya stated on the X platform: “We had a very productive meeting with Tulsi Gabbard, Director of National Intelligence, and Joe Kent, Director of the National Counterterrorism Center at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, during which we discussed a range of important issues related to matters I have raised previously.”
He added: “Our discussions included the role of militias and their associated networks. We also emphasized the importance of the Iraqi government continuing its efforts over the past year to strengthen border security, combat smuggling and corruption, and consolidate state authority.”
He continued: “Under President Trump’s leadership, I am fully committed to uncovering and prosecuting wrongdoing wherever it occurs, and to achieving stability and security in Iraq, in service of Iraq’s sovereignty and the well-being of its people.”
