US Treasury Issues Immediate Decision to “Ease Sanctions on Syria”

Washington: The US Treasury announced today, Saturday, the "ease of sanctions on Syria," in implementation of the decision by US President Donald Trump.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the US Treasury stated that lifting sanctions on Syria will allow for the launch of new investments and private sector activities. The department emphasized that it will work alongside the State Department to encourage these new investments in Syria. The Ministry highlighted the importance of Syria continuing its efforts to become a stable and peaceful nation, expressing hope that lifting sanctions will lead the country towards a prosperous future.

The US Treasury reaffirmed its commitment to supporting a stable, unified, and peaceful Syria, urging the Syrian government to refrain from harboring terrorist organizations and to ensure the security of religious and ethnic minorities. Additionally, the department stated that the United States will monitor progress and developments in Syria, with the issued license facilitating activities across all sectors of the Syrian economy.

The lifting of sanctions does not extend to individuals responsible for human rights violations and war crimes, nor to the former regime led by Bashar al-Assad. The primary goal of this action is to aid in rebuilding Syria's economy, financial sector, and infrastructure. The Treasury also confirmed its approval of all transactions with the new Syrian government, and noted that the State Department will issue a waiver under the Caesar Act, enabling Washington's partners and allies to engage with Syria.

US President Donald Trump had previously announced the lifting of all US sanctions on Syria during a visit to Saudi Arabia, marking an end to more than four decades of severe economic and political restrictions.
