Washington:The US Department of the Treasury has amended its sanctions regulations related to state sponsors of terrorism, following the removal of Syria’s designation in this category.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the Treasury Department stated that a regulatory provision containing a general license specific to Syria has been revoked. This revocation is deemed unnecessary after Syria’s designation as a state sponsor of terrorism was lifted.

The amendment to the regulations is intended to align them with Syria’s changed status and does not introduce new sanctions against the country.
