Baghdad: Relatives of the victims of the Al-Kut hypermarket fire tragedy commemorated the first anniversary of the incident, which claimed the lives of more than 70 people, this evening by holding a memorial service at the site of the fire in downtown Al-Kut.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the service was attended by relatives of the victims, a number of activists, and residents of the city. They gathered to recite the Fatiha, the opening chapter of the Quran, in remembrance of the victims and expressed their continued solidarity with the victims’ families.

Participants reiterated their demands for accountability for those responsible for the incident. They called for justice for the victims’ families and sought assurances that measures would be put in place to prevent the recurrence of such tragedies in the future.
