Waning Gibbous Moon to Align Directly Over Kaaba in Rare Astronomical Event

Makkah al-mukarramah: Tomorrow, the skies over Makkah al-Mukarramah will present a rare astronomical event as the waning gibbous moon aligns directly above the Kaaba. This occurrence, set to happen at dawn, combines scientific precision with a visual spectacle, emphasizing the harmony between celestial movements and terrestrial landmarks.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Majed Abu Zahra, Head of the Jeddah Astronomical Society, explained to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) that the moon’s alignment is a scientific confirmation of the accuracy of calculations regarding the moon’s trajectory. This precision allows for an exact determination of the moon’s position, facilitating an easy identification of the Qibla direction from various locations worldwide.

The event offers a unique viewing opportunity for visitors and worshippers, showcasing the moon in a remarkable scene. For astronomers, this serves as a practical demonstration of precise astronomical models. It allows them to compare mathematical forecasts with real observations, analyze angles and altitudes, and verify the accuracy of astronomical calculations.
