Washington: The United States has confirmed its agreement to hold a meeting with the Iranians in Oman next Friday.
According to National Iraqi News Agency, Axios quoted US officials stating that plans for the Washington-Tehran talks in Muscat on Friday have been reinstated due to pressure from Arab and Muslim leaders. These leaders encouraged the US to proceed with the meeting to hear the perspectives of the Iranian side.
US officials further revealed that the Trump administration agreed to conduct the meeting to honor the requests from its regional allies. Nine countries in the region had communicated with the Trump administration, urging them not to cancel the scheduled meeting in Muscat.
Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi announced that the Iranian-American talks would proceed as planned on Friday in Oman, despite earlier reports from Axios, citing US officials, suggesting the talks might be canceled.
