Kyiv: American media outlets have reported that Washington dispatched a delegation led by Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll to Kyiv. The delegation is set to engage with the Ukrainian leadership, with plans for subsequent meetings with the Russian side.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll and Army Chief of Staff General Randy George, two of the Pentagon's top officials, are scheduled to arrive in Ukraine this week for an unannounced visit. This visit is part of the United States' efforts to find ways to expedite the resolution of the ongoing conflict.

The delegation's agenda includes meetings with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, as well as Ukrainian military officials and lawmakers, beginning on Wednesday. Notably, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Higseth has not yet visited Kyiv since assuming office in January.

Further, the Wall Street Journal reported that Driscoll is set to meet with Russian officials following his discussions in Kyiv. The Army Secretary, accompanied by two four-star generals, is expected to hold comprehensive talks with President Zelensky and other senior Ukrainian officials, including representatives from the military and industry. The meetings with Russian officials are intended to follow these discussions.

Key topics to be addressed by the delegation in Kyiv include U.S. delays in drone production and potential strategies for ending the conflict. Additionally, reports from Axios indicate that the Trump administration is engaged in secret collaborations with Russia to devise a new plan aimed at concluding the conflict in Ukraine.

Historically, Russia and Ukraine participated in a series of meetings in Istanbul last summer, leading to exchanges of prisoners and the bodies of fallen soldiers. However, the negotiation process has since reached an impasse following Kyiv's rejection of Moscow's proposal to establish working groups dedicated to political, humanitarian, and military matters.
