Baghdad: The “Green Iraq” Observatory has identified cases of water contamination in six hospitals located in Baghdad. According to the Observatory’s findings, water samples from these hospitals were found to be contaminated, raising concerns about the safety and health implications for patients and staff.

According to National Iraqi News Agency, the contamination cases were highlighted in the 2025 annual report of the Federal Board of Supreme Audit. The report stated that water samples sent to the Central Public Health Laboratory showed signs of contamination, yet no adequate measures have been implemented to rectify the issue.

The hospitals affected include Baghdad Teaching Hospital, Martyr Ghazi Hariri Hospital, and its affiliated hospitals and centers, as well as Al-Amal Oncology Hospital, all situated within the Medical City complex. Additionally, contamination was also detected at Fatima Al-Zahraa Maternity and Children’s Hospital and Kamal Al-Samarrai Fertility and Infertility Treatment Center, both of which are part of the Baghdad Al-Rusafa Health Directorate.
