Baghdad: Minister of Water Resources Muthanna Al-Tamimi affirmed on Monday that Iraq is seeking to benefit from successful international experiences to strengthen national capabilities and secure the country’s water security.
According to Iraqi News Agency, the ministry stated that Minister of Water Resources Muthanna Al-Tamimi met with Australian Ambassador to Baghdad Glenn Miles and his accompanying delegation to discuss the state of the country’s water resources and prospects for enhancing bilateral cooperation in this vital sector.
The ministry’s statement further elaborated that the meeting focused on mechanisms for activating joint cooperation by involving Australian companies in developing the water resources sector in line with the ministry’s modern approaches.
During the discussions, Al-Tamimi highlighted the key water challenges facing Iraq, noting similarities between local climatic conditions and Australia’s experience in dealing with drought and water scarcity. This, he emphasized, could enhan
ce opportunities to benefit from Australia’s accumulated expertise in this field.
He stressed the ministry’s efforts to benefit from successful international experiences and build strategic partnerships with countries having similar experiences. Such collaborations, he noted, could contribute significantly to strengthening national capabilities and securing Iraq’s water security.
Meanwhile, the Australian ambassador affirmed his country’s readiness to provide technical support and advanced expertise. He specifically mentioned areas such as water resources management, modern irrigation technologies, rationalizing water consumption, and addressing water salinity-solutions that Australia has adopted to adapt to its arid environment.
