Water Resources Ministry confirms the existence of a move to secure technical meetings between Iraq and the Iranian side to resolve the water file

Baghdad The Ministry of Water Resources confirmed today, Tuesday, that there is a move to secure technical meetings between Iraq and the Iranian side to resolve the water file, while indicating that the Iraqi negotiator is discussing the water file with the Iranian and Turkish sides.

The Ministry’s Spokesman, Ali Thamer, told the official News Agency, “The Prime Minister’s visit to Tehran with a high-level ministerial delegation that included the Minister of Water Resources, was important, and witnessed a meeting between the Minister of Water Resources and officials in the energy and water of the Islamic Republic.”

Thamer added, “the meeting dealt with several axes related to the important water file, and it was agreed to continue the technical meetings through the technical side or by holding continuous meetings during the period following the visit.”

He stressed, “there is a move to secure these technical meetings and to put forward everything that would coordinate joint efforts,” noting that “the Iraqi negotiator is currently discussing the water file, whether with the Iranian side or the Turkish side, to ensure its water rights and achieve what meets its needs according to requirements.”

He expressed that the Ministry of Water Resources welcomed every step that calls for joint coordination and communication in this important file to secure water releases
